Who Do You Want To Be On The Other Side Of This Crisis?

No matter your age, income, geography, or occupation, your life changed in March 2020. And with those changes came a shake-up in most everything that you were feeling, doing and thinking before this crisis. And although there continues to be a lot of fear and uncertainty about the future swirling around, this shake-up is the best time for you to decide: Who do you want to be on the other side of this crisis?

95% of everything we feel, do and think is a habit. In essence, our habits define who we are! When you think about all of the years that certain habits have held you back or have not served you:  Habits around negative thinking and feelings of insecurity, habits around self-limiting beliefs, habits affecting your health–habits around the way you spend your time and money. This crisis disrupted our routine habits, allowing us the time and space to start forming new ones.

You see, everything around us now is telling us that things are still changing–and they are. This is not the new normal yet–we’re only in the “now” normal. But as a result, many people are spending this precious time “just trying to get through this” rather than forming a plan of who they want to be on the other side. Now is the perfect time to pause and take note of those former habits that held us back, and pivot to form new habits that change our life for the better.

So, how do you do that? For me, it starts by taking inventory.  What traits do I want to be known for having in my being, and what traits that I want to be known for doing. And now that I’ve identified those traits and defined what it’s going to take to develop them, I am taking inventory of all my current habits that do not serve me, and the new habits I need to start developing to support and strengthen those traits I desire.

As John Dryden is quoted as saying, “First we make our habits, then our habits make us.”

Self-awareness is the first step. Once you are aware that most of your life’s being and activity is made up of habits, you hold a secret key to know where you need to focus to massively change your life.
